I met Diane while we both were attending UCLA (GO BRUINS!). I had just moved to Los Angeles from little ole' Grass Valley and was endlessly intrigued by the deeply embedded artist culture of my new city. A culture I have always felt Diane uniquely taps into. It has been an honor to watch her work evolve from taking photos of friends on the rooftops of buildings to producing her one-of-a-kind publication, Suspend Magazine.

I hope everyone enjoyed their weekend! This week I’m in Pittsburgh for a visit. It is the perfect time of year to be traveling to PA. The forests are lush and the weather sweetly changes between gentle rainstorms and hot summer days. Plus, the Three Rivers Arts Festival is going on in PGH which is one of my favorite concert series!
This Summer's season beginnings are reflected in the vegetable garden as the green blueberries and pepperoncini buds peek through. I can’t help but feel rejuvenated and motivated to take on the next couple of months.

When I curate a wall of artwork, I have to consider how each different piece influences the others. Has the work been spaced correctly? How does each piece affect its surrounding environment?
These same principles apply when we curate our lives. Our decisions are like pieces of art on a wall. Every choice has an impact on our happiness.
In June 2014, I knew I needed to make a change. I had spent the last two years spending hours each day commuting to and from a corporate cubicle. I was utterly miserable. That year I escaped my cubicle in pursuit of working for myself.
I wanted to be the curator of my own life, my own business, and my own environment. Through this desire, my blog, Lu Curates was born, along with the boutique marketing firm, Lu Curates Media.
Running your own business comes with many struggles, especially when you are working alone. Here are a few tricks that help me get through the work day.

Using the Term Partner in Relationships
I was deeply saddened by the death of Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg’s husband. In her book, Lean In, she wrote very intimately about her marriage, and credited much of her success to the partnership she had with her husband, Dave Goldberg.
Those sections of her book spoke to me on a very personal level. Before dating my current boyfriend, I dated men who recoiled at the mention of children, marriage, or even the word ‘partner.’ It took me a long time to learn it’s important that the people we date, love, and dedicate our hearts to want to be in our lives as partners.
