I know I haven’t been following my own advice. At least, I haven’t been writing publicly. I’m sorry for that. So many people came out in support of my last post (thank you!) and I feel like I’ve been slacking on my end. Here is what I’ve been up to the last few days.
- I quit my job, woot woot.
- I put in notice on my apartment.
- I’ve been writing a proposal and sprucing up my resume for my new project in the Bay Area. This adult stuff can be rough!
- I’ve been spending a lot of time saying my goodbyes.
I have been writing, just privately. One thing I have realized about blogging is, it is easy to post something that is too personal online, especially when your life is going through so much transition like mine happens to be at the moment. So, I’m trying to brace myself and be patient while I work out my feelings and the next few weeks in Pittsburgh. I also have been mapping out my impending road trip. You ready?
First, I’ll be taking a short trip to Northern California. It’s weird, I know. I had a visit planned months in advance and can’t get out of the plane ticket without losing it. Planning trips an ungodly amount of months early is what you have to do when you live on the opposite coast as your family. So, I’ll fly home, before driving home.
After that, I drive to New York City. Well, Hoboken New Jersey to be exact. This is where my brother Damon lives. He commutes into the city everyday for work and school. I have a feeling this part of my journey is going to be rejuvenating and full of healing... assuming Damon doesn't drive me too crazy :P I’ll be there for just under three weeks. I envision my days being filled with writing in New York cafés, gallivanting around the city from one art exhibit to the next and cooking for my brother and his girlfriend at night (they are such New Yorkers, I know they rarely cook for themselves!)
From there, I will be driving to the Washington D.C./ Baltimore area where some of my fellow ‘Californian Expats’ and good friends from my hometown live. I'm hoping we can band together for a friends-giving or something of the sorts. The one couple has been together since we were in high school! They recently had a baby and if a big dinner doesn’t happen, I will be perfectly fine crocheting baby hats and crawling on the floor with the little one.
Then, I will move onto Chapel Hill where one of my favorite friends lives. He recently moved there from Pittsburgh but oddly enough, we met long before my move to the ‘burgh in LA through an ex-boyfriend. They have been friends since Kindergarten. But when you date someone and sort of "come of age," together, even if things don’t work out, there are some people that touch your heart and are worth be-friending despite the deplorable break-up.
Beyond that, I’m on my own. I’ll hope to hit up Savannah, GA before landing in Miami for Art Basel. I will wander up to New Orleans then, I imagine, I will head straight to LA. Once on the California coast I will drive up to Nor Cal, making it home just before Christmas.
I'd love to hear any suggestions you might have in the comments!
