With the New Year rapidly approaching us and me finally landing on the doorstep of my parent’s house in Northern California for Christmas, I have to ask myself where do I want this blog to go? What does that look like? I started this blog because I wanted to have a space where I could explore, experiment and meet new people but also, because I truly believe:
“Life is how you curate it.”
I grew up with a rough and tumble past. There was not good china in the cupboards of the rented housing my family filtered through. My biological mother did have dinner on the table most nights but these were not ornately planned meals. It was a lot of ground turkey and flour tortillas if I remember correctly. There was nothing luxurious about my childhood.
My home growing up was messy and in ruins. At 17 I moved in with my first foster family who spoiled me with Ralph Lauren bedding and a beautifully curated home. I couldn't get over the fact that some people had TWO living rooms. I fell in love with fun designers like Betsy Johnson and discovered the great "Shabby Chic." I only lived with them a short period but they loved me well when I needed it the most.
After moving in with my best friend Clare's family, I learned the importance of structure and order. This house is where I, now and forever will, call home. Her parents are more then I could have ever hoped for. It's an honor to be a part of their family.
It wasn’t until college and Los Angeles where I really witnessed the ins and outs of glamour. I fell in love with art and the eccentrics that makeup its world.
I have always wanted something more for myself then dinning rooms lined with recycling bins full of empty beer bottles.
We are the curators of our own lives. I believe that you can travel, cook, and dress however you damn-well please and it doesn’t take much to make it happen. Living well doesn’t have to mean living expensively.
I cook because I want to be a mother someday. I hunt down different designs because I feel I have worked hard to have those creature comforts in my life. I uncover art because I’m passionately in love with it. I get dressed in the morning because I, like all of you, have to… and if I have to; I might as well make it interesting.
Outside of the usual lose 10lbs, get to the gym, meditate, floss, mumbo jumbo, my largest resolution is here. I want this to be an experience you enjoy. One that inspires you to curate all the things you deserve in this world.
Thank you, for being such amazing and supportive readers. I hope you all are safe tonight. Tomorrow is a new day and a new year. Tomorrow we curate.
xx
