I decided that my new year doesn't start until February 1st. Which works out nicely considering my birthday is in February... New year, new me! One of my New Year's resolutions is to meet more creatives and surround myself with people who inspire me. For example, last week I met with a local weaver and a photographer from instagram. In the spirit of getting to know more people, I also accepted an invitation to eat caucus tacos on a school bus turned tiny home with a man who climbs trees for living. I wrapped up the weekend enjoying Sacramento's urban baths, reconnecting with friends in between hot saunas and cold plunges. What is an urban bath you ask? Well, it's my latest find!
This urban bathhouse requires bathing suits. I am by no means above getting naked in front of other people - in my 20's I once skinny dipped in the rooftop pool of the Standard Hotel in downtown LA after hours. I grew up in the mountains, what can I say??? But, not everyone is comfortable with it. There's nothing wrong with a little modesty. The plus side is more people are likely to adventure here with you, than say, a hot springs.
They have a steam room, a dry sauna, a cold plunge (the best part!) and a heated pool. A day pass is only $25, they offer massages, yoga along with cool programing. I'm dying to attend on of Taylor Rynicki's sound bath mediations! It's the perfect reprieve from the stresses life makes us endure. You might want to call ahead if you are driving from a distance because they do reach capacity sometimes on the weekends and there can be a short a waiting list.
After some Filipino eye masks I picked up from my travels a couple weeks ago, and few sweat secessions we decided to go to the Federalist for salads and wine. It was shockingly loud after leaving such a calm and soothing environment but we adjusted quickly. The restaurant is half shipping crate, half outdoor seating with long rustic communal tables. It's heated and the temperature wraps around you like a warm blanket. I adore, the lightly dressed, thinly sliced kale salad, topped with freshly shredded parmesan. Plus, they have Bocce ball!
As I continue on this journey, the blog is constantly evolving and I'd love to hear your feedback! Feel free to leave a comment or DM me on Instagram.
